UK Politicians’ ECHR Obsession: A National Farce

In a display of staggering political cowardice, UK politicians cling to the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) like a security blanket, oblivious to its erosion of British sovereignty and legal autonomy. This obstinate allegiance is not just misguided; it’s a dereliction of duty to the very citizens they purport to represent.

The ECHR, once a noble post-war initiative, has morphed into a bureaucratic behemoth that prioritises the rights of criminals and illegal migrants over law-abiding Britons. Its overreach has thwarted deportations of dangerous individuals and hamstrung the UK’s ability to enforce its own immigration policies. Yet, our spineless leaders remain entranced by its outdated ideals, sacrificing national security on the altar of international approval.

This farcical commitment to the ECHR is a betrayal of Brexit’s core promise: reclaiming control over our laws and borders. Instead, politicians have shackled the UK to a foreign court that undermines parliamentary sovereignty and the will of the people. Their refusal to exit the ECHR is not just negligence; it’s an affront to democracy.

While other European nations, such as Germany, begin to question their own adherence to the ECHR in light of mass migration challenges, UK politicians bury their heads in the sand, paralysed by fear of international disapproval. This timidity renders them complicit in the ongoing erosion of British legal independence.

It’s time for a political reckoning. The UK must sever ties with the ECHR to restore its legal sovereignty and protect its citizens effectively. Politicians who resist this imperative are not guardians of human rights; they are enablers of a system that prioritises the rights of the few over the safety and will of the many. Their inaction is not just incompetence; it’s a national disgrace.
