Prime Minister Hits Back at Billionaire’s Apocalyptic Prediction
In a fiery exchange, Prime Minister Keir Starmer has lambasted Elon Musk over his controversial claims that a civil war in the UK is inevitable. The tech billionaire’s remarks, made via social media, sparked outrage across the political spectrum, with Starmer branding them as “irresponsible and dangerous”.
The row erupted after Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, posted on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting that the recent spate of violent riots and civil unrest indicated an unavoidable descent into civil war. His comments came amidst heightened tensions following the murder of three girls and the subsequent spread of misinformation online.
Starmer swiftly responded, condemning Musk’s statements. “Elon Musk’s comments are not only unfounded but also dangerously inflammatory,” Starmer declared in a press conference. “There is no justification for spreading such apocalyptic visions. The UK is facing challenges, but we are far from the brink of civil war.”
The Prime Minister accused Musk of exacerbating the situation by leveraging his vast social media influence to propagate fear and division. “We need responsible discourse, not sensationalist rhetoric,” Starmer added. “Our focus must be on healing and unity, not on stoking the flames of discord.”
Musk’s prediction has been widely criticised by politicians and public figures alike. Many have pointed out the role of social media in fuelling unrest, calling for stricter regulations to prevent the spread of false information.
The Prime Minister emphasised the government’s commitment to addressing the root causes of the riots, including social inequality and misinformation. “Our priority is to restore peace and order while addressing the grievances that have led to this unrest. We must work together to build a more cohesive society.”
As the debate rages on, it remains clear that Musk’s comments have struck a nerve, highlighting the broader issue of the influence wielded by tech giants in shaping public opinion and discourse.
